Metasequoia glyptostroboides SHAW'S LEGACY 'Raven'

Raven dawn redwood

Family: Cupressaceae

Plant Type: Tree

2011 Plant of Merit

From the Missouri Botanical Garden comes this monoecious, deciduous dawn redwood that typically grows in conical form to 70-100 feet tall. It features soft, flattened, bright green needles and orange-brown bark. Trunks broaden at the base with age, often developing elaborate fluting. ‘Raven’ is distinguished from species plants by its uniform pyramidal growth, well-spaced branching, deeply furrowed bark, better resistance to foliar diseases and more vigorous growth rate. Conifer and trade names honor long-time MBG Director Dr. Peter Raven and MBG founder Henry Shaw. Large landscape tree for a large space.
